Washable Nappies

All cloth nappies and liners are machine washable to 60C and can be tumble or line dried. Ideally reusable nappies need to be washed a few times before use to maximise absorbency. The selection of cloth nappies I have chosen to supply are most suited to this area (Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire) because of our hard water. "Tots Bots" and "Easy Peasy" both do a cotton terry range but are not as suitable because the hard water tends to make the material hard and decreases their useful life.

I would recommend washing nappies every other day to achieve a full load. Fabric softener is not recommended on cloth nappies as this will reduce their absorbency. The washable nappies may be soaked in water with a few drops of tea tree oil, with the water being changed every day before laundering. They do not need to be soaked but this will help to prevent staining. I would also recommend line drying to reduce the cost (financial and environmental) of care. This also helps to sun-bleach any stains.

The nappy covers (wraps) do not need to be washed after every nappy change. They can be rinsed in the sink, wiped clean or machine washed to 60C. It is not advisable to soak in the bucket or place over a radiator or similar heat as this will damage the laminate coating. They dry very quickly.
